Mountain biking is an excellent way to stay in shape, go exploring, or to simply have fun. Racing down a mountain is a tremendously fun, although it does pose some danger. Although it has risks, if you take the proper safety precautions, it's something that the whole family can enjoy.

Mountain biking can put into three categories - free racing, downhill, and cross country. Now although they all have similarities, they also all require different skills. The bike you will get will depend on the style of riding you intend to do.

How to become a great biker

Stamina and endurance are definitely pre-requisites for a great mountain biker. You will also need ambition and lots of practice to be successful. Like any other sport, the main thing is time and practice practice practice. Those who have only just begun will have to get past the many bruises they will get from falling off their bikes but it gets easier.

As has already been mentioned, mountain biking can be quite dangerous at times. Everytime you ride, you should wear a helmet, and elbow and knee pads. Consider a pair of goggles too if you are riding in the woods. Your safety has be your top priority when you are mountain biking.
